Sunday Blessings

I hardly ever write in poetic form (and I'm hardly sure that's what the following is), but prayer is rather poetic, and today I am thankful for prayer. It's our strong weapon to use in the war of this world-the war that is not against flesh and blood but against spirits and principalities and things not of this world. Prayer is our humble weapon that we do not use enough. Prayer is difficult to define, but if I were to try I would explain it as the deep yearnings and moans of my soul that rise up and out to come spilling out of my mouth on behalf of myself and other people. Prayer is my soul proclaiming truth, declaring victory, and surrendering battles to the One who hears all prayers.

The one who works all things for good.

Prayer is admitting that this world is challenging. It is letting down your heart barriers. It is lifting up your hands and saying, 'God, bring your kingdom to earth, because I sure as hell can't live this life without you and your love'. It is asking God to build His kingdom on earth. To wreck our lives and ruin our plans to make way for His purposes, His plans, and His will that is beautiful and strong and about loving people. It is asking Him to stir up our souls and set our hearts on fire so that all we want to do is live out His Gospel of messy, glorious, scandalous grace. It is asking the Lord to wreck your life and ruin your plans in the best way.

A Prayer for Us

LORD, let us be aware of your Presence today
You are the LORD our God
The LORD of love
of light
of prosperity

LORD, let us choose to live in your love today
You're the LORD of love
of truth
of freedom

Let us receive a Gospel-the Gospel-of grace
Let us extend your Gospel to others
The Gospel that you have made ours

Sweet Jesus be our hands
King Jesus be our feet
LORD Jesus be our words
Our eyes
Our hearts

LORD, let us love
In confession
In repentance
In hugs
In kisses
In tears
In laughter
In deed and truth

Let us thrive on the Kingdom
Furthering it
Seeking it
Dwelling in the midst of it

Through a servant of yours you spoke:
'To love another person is to see the face of God'

Let us live out this truth
You are the LORD our God
