Let It Shine- All Sons and Daughters

Believers are called to live as children of the light, only possible by the Holy Spirit living in us. Sometimes, it's the easiest thing to be compelled by joy to shout it from the mountains how great our God is. Other times, I need a reminder. A song that serves as a reminder to me is 'Let It Shine' by All Sons and Daughters. Well written, harmonious, and encouraging, this song inspires me to shout truth into the midst of darkness all around. Listening to it makes me want to smile at every stranger and share the gospel with anyone I see.

Though we are redeemed and healed through Jesus, we still live in a broken world and are still tried, tempted, and hurt. It's not always easy to choose joy. We are encouraged, however, to rejoice always. We are even told to consider it pure joy when we do face trials, because in those cumbersome times we are able to develop perseverance, character, and other good attributes, all of which reflect our Father God.

We are vessels the Lord uses to shine light to a dark world. Because we know Jesus Christ and the beauty that is in Him, we should want to show that to others around us.

My favorite lyrics in the song are from the bridge:

'This is the battle of our time of our time now
We can't afford not to cry not to cry out
Shake the earth from the ground from the ground
Rescue souls from the darkness around'

We can't afford not to cry out. We cannot afford not to cry out to the Lord. When we cry out to Him in humility, a sweet act of surrender takes place and we allow Him to shine His light and grace into us, which we then can show to the world. A lot of Christians fall into complacency, forgetting to be passionate for the Lord or building up walls to keep Him out. It's easy to want to be comfortable and safe, choosing not to reach out to the world around and staying in a bubble of your own. That's not what we're called to do. We are called to follow Jesus every single day in every single circumstance-not just when we want to on days that we feel like it.

This song is a great reminder to be lights unto the world for the glory of Jesus Christ. It's a simple song with a profound message: let His light shine.
